Miami is the place to be. Techies know it, foodies know it, artists know it, and we at Lemon City definitely know it. We are passionate about, and committed to, intelligently developing Miami into a city to be reckoned with. We believe that the establishment of strong Third Places is key to this development. If your First Place is the home you live in, and your Second Place is wherever you work, your Third Place is an oasis, the place where you can unwind and connect with your neighbors and friends. Third Places are public or private spaces that facilitate casual congregation, connectivity, ideation and intellectual discovery. Historically cafes, so-called Penny Universities
, served as powerful community third places - where for a single penny people could have access to not only tea & coffee, but a wealth of information provided by fellow patrons, newspapers, bulletins, debates and speakers. In these places free & open thinking, debate, deliberation and curiosity were encouraged; bolstered by the diversity of interests, understandings and experiences attributable to the people inside. Today, a Third Place could be anything from a cafe, library, cocktail bar or bookstore, to a studio, park, or beach; its anywhere people come together and have the opportunity to make meaningful connections (with information and people) that can lead to amazing results.
A strong Third Place culture is key to Miami's intelligent development. To that end we created the Communiversity of Miami, a 501(c)(3) non-profit think tank dedicated to identifying and funding innovative opportunities and ideas that seek to create Third Places. Lemon City Tea Co. will allocate some of our funds from retail sales of our Miami-inspired teas to Communiversity in order to fuel its mission of establishing and helping others establish game-changing Third Places. If we like your idea, and we can make a meaningful contribution to it, we will help you make it happen.
